Canada’s National Shrine to the North American Martyrs is bringing a modern approach to supporting its historic site with the launch of an online fundraiser called Faith, Fire and Flavour.

This virtual event is an interactive cooking show and will feature Martyrs’ Shrine’s chef, Jason Reynolds, who will guide viewers in making Coq au Vin, an authentic French dish that evokes the times of the Canadian Martyrs.

Participants who buy their ticket online will receive a shopping list of ingredients, and wine pairings, for the three-course dinner by email ahead of time, and the link to join the stream on the day of the event.

The programme will also include interviews with members of the community who share a connection to the shrine, updates about the site, as well as a blind auction.

“Since the COVID-19 restrictions forced us to cancel our annual fundraising dinner, we came up with the idea of creating this virtual event in the hopes of filling not only the financial void left by our annual dinner, but also the interpersonal void left from not being able to gather with our friends and supporters,” said Fr. Michael Knox, SJ, director of Martyrs’ Shrine.

The event will take place online on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by donation online. A donation of $40 per person is suggested.
