INNISFIL SEEDY SATURDAY

INNISFIL, ON - The Innisfil Seed Library, ideaLAB & Library and the Innisfil Garden Club are proud to be hosting Innisfil's first ever Seedy Saturday on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 10am to 3pm at the ideaLAB & Library Lakeshore Branch. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. The Innisfil Seed Library also reopens for its second season.
Seedy Saturdays are a phenomenon held all over Ontario, across the country and around the world, and we are thrilled to bring one to our bustling community. These events bring together both new and seasoned gardeners, farmers, seed savers and community members passionate about mindful gardening, food security and our environment. Innisfil is a growing community with passionate gardeners including the Simcoe County Master Gardeners, two active horticultural societies, and an increasing awareness of the importance of growing local, organic seed at home. Innisfil Seedy Saturday will include seed vendors, garden-related community groups and businesses, a community seed swap, expert talks and demonstrations, children’s crafts and other memorable activities.
Not to be missed: Landscape designer Jodie Munshaw will show you easy ways to create a commemorative Canada 150 home garden! Over 10 tables offering seeds for purchase and free-of-charge including a Community Seed Swap. Buy a rain barrel, a bird feeder, some native plants and so much more. Learn about the “outdoor classroom” along the new Rotary Trail or participate in fun garden activities for the whole family. Don’t forget to stop by the Hack Lab to create something special for your garden. Delicious food available for purchase from Innisfil’s Pasta Plus.
“Bringing a Seedy Saturday to Innisfil was a natural progression after last year’s successful first season of the Innisfil Seed Library,” says Bridget Indelicato, Innisfil Seed Library founder and Innisfil Seedy Saturday organizer. “We hope to grow our network of keen gardeners, new and experienced, and continue to get people thinking about where their food comes from and the importance of keeping our pollinators healthy and happy by what we grow at home.”
Innisfil Seedy Saturday takes place at Innisfil ideaLAB & Library, Lakeshore Branch, 967 Innisfil Beach Road, Innisfil, ON L9S 1V3 (1.5 hours north of Toronto) Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

- 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.: “Reasons to Harvest Nature’s Food” by Karen Stephenson, Edible Wild Food
- 1:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.: “Leaves, Insects, Birds: Why Native Plants Matter” by Kate Harries, Return to Native
- 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: “Bugs: Let’s Get Acquainted” by Anne Brolley, Master Gardener/Gardens by Hummingbird
