Third Age Barrie presents Whose Truth? What Reconciliation? Learning to Share Turtle Island fall lecture series.

Tuesdays from Sept. 26 to Oct. 24, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Grace United Church located at Cook and Grove Street, Barrie, Ont.

Indigenous leaders and experts will present this series of lectures that will add to our knowledge and understanding of some of the most critical issues our country is facing and help lead to improved relationships and healing.

Tuesday, Sept 26 - Setting the Scene
Presenter: Gertie Beaucage
We will learn the history of the indigenous nations around the Great Lakes, their challenges as result of immigration of the Europeans and succession of their clans

Tuesday, October 3 - The Clash of Cultures
Presenters: Gee and Peter Garrow
Challenges arising from differing world views following the arrival of the Europeans and efforts to achieve reconciliation.

Tuesday, October 17 - Moving Towards Reconnection
Presenter: Dr Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux and Tareyn Johnson
What are the impacts of colonialism, the Indian Act, and residential schools on Indigenous communities in our area and further afield? What does reconciliation imply? What is hidden/unconscious colonialism? What does indigenization mean?

Tuesday, October 10 - Ongoing Colonization
Presenter: Maya Chacaby
Ms Chacaby will bring to life through personal story an accurate, thorough and foundational understanding of colonization and historic trauma as a shared Indigenous and Non-Indigenous meta-narrative.

Tuesday, October 24 - Reconciliation is… unsettling
Presenter: Dr. Johnathon Dewar
What might reconciliation mean for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples and communities and for Canadians?

Third Age Barrie Lifelong Learning Association is a group of volunteers with diverse educational backgrounds, who are motivated to establish stimulating and informative topics of interest for adults in the community of Barrie and area. There are 28 Lifelong Learning Associations across the province.
