Inaugural synchronized skating showcase fast approaching

The Mariposa School of Skating and the Barrie Royal Blades are proud to announce the first annual Barrie Synchro Holiday Showcase taking place Wednesday, Dec. 11, 7 p.m. at the Allandale Recreation Centre. The showcase will feature five Barrie synchronized skating teams along with special guest soloists and pairs teams.

Synchronized skating is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and Canada is considered a world-leader in this discipline. It involves a team of 8 to 16 skaters performing as one unit, executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to themed music. Teams at various levels compete at regional, national and world championships.

This is the first year the Mariposa School of Skating has offered a synchronized skating program, adding to its list of popular figure skating disciplines.

Traditionally known for attracting and producing international and Olympic figure skaters, Mariposa is excited to have rostered three synchronized skating teams that will compete this season with members ranging in age from 5 to 15. These three teams with join adult teams from the Barrie Royal Blades next week to debut their competition programs for the season.

Admission to the showcase is $2 per person with a donation to the Barrie Food Bank.

The 2019 Synchro Showcase will feature:

  • Team Mariposa Beginner
  • Team Mariposa Juvenile
  • Team Mariposa Pre-Novice
  • Barrie Royal Blades Adult 1
  • Barrie Royal Blades Adult 2

Special guest skaters include two soloists and local pairs teams.
