In wake of pandemic, ZuZu fashion show moves to Facebook Live

Tracey Baker says 'this is the catalyst for people like me who have been trying to think about new ways to reach people and do business'

Despite the global pandemic, one downtown business plans on helping people look good this spring.

With the current COVID-19 health crisis forcing people to limit contact with each other, many events are being cancelled or downsized.

The Tuesday, March 24 the spring fashion show scheduled to take place at ZuZu Fashion Boutique is still happening, but is not open to the public and will be showcased on Facebook Live with a very limited number of people in the 25 Dunlop St., E. shop.

Owner Tracey Baker admits she is not a very tech-savvy person but said this is a good time to jump in.

“This isn’t going to win an Academy Award for production, but we’re giving it a go to see how we can still provide a fun thing for people to watch online,” said Baker. “The times now are kind of the perfect storm for this type of endeavour.”

The Code Vitesse Spring 2020 launch was to serve refreshments, but the Facebook page now asks that people cozy up with their favourite drink and some food as three models show off the works of creator Iram Sheikh. Sheikh is scheduled to speak during the event, depending on technical capabilities.

Baker told BarrieToday she will fight hard against being an online store, but definitely sees the benefits, particularly during this pandemic.

“I much rather have the face-to-face and personal experience with someone, but clearly that is not a smart thing to do right now,” said Baker. “I am going to start looking at things like online gift certificates.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many businesses to close for an unspecified time in order to make sure the disease doesn’t have a chance to spread.

“This is a scary time, it absolutely is. But when we come out of this, we all need to make sure we come out better than before,” said Baker. “This is the catalyst for people like me who have been trying to think about new ways to reach people and do business.”

The ZuZu Fashion Boutique Spring collection show will happen Tuesday, March 24 at 6 p.m. on Facebook Live. Check the page for more details and to view the show.
