Ingo Wisch sobbed in the witness stand as he recounted the last evening he spent with his mother and their final moments together on April 4, 2014.

"Every night I have flashbacks. I constantly have flashbacks," he testified.

The 16-year old was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla being driven by his mom Theresa Wisch when they were struck by a BMW on Mapleview Drive West.

Theresa was killed instantly.

Ingo was knocked unconscious and required 20 stitches to the back of his head.

Two young Barrie men have pleaded not guilty to several charges including street racing causing death.

Ingo told court the crash happened "in the blink of an eye" as his mother pulled out of Tim Hortons.

"A black car came flying up the hill...I just remember the black car hit and it all went black and I woke up in hospital."

The distraught teenager required a short break at one point and could not contain his tears throughout his evidence, often breaking down, grabbing a tissue and putting his hand over his eyes.

Ingo testified he saw a white car "trailing" the black car by one or two car lengths.

He estimated the black car was travelling "really fast" and was "fish tailing, sliding out."

When defence lawyers questioned him about his statement to police regarding the speed of the vehicles he replied through tears.

"I was 13-years old at the time. I didn't notice speeds."

Court heard he and his mom had been to Kelsey's for dinner and Plato's Closet clothes shopping for him.

Theresa was gassing up at Canadian Tire when Ingo went to get a hot chocolate at Tim Hortons.

The first witness to take the stand was plumber Joseph O'Shea who testified he saw two speeding cars and then the crash.

He said the young driver of the BMW looked "stunned."

O'Shea testified about an exchange they had.

"I said to him I saw what you guys were doing.  I saw you guys racing"

O'Shea said the driver replied, "We weren't racing sir."
