UPDATE:

By 9 p.m., Alectra crews had restored power to a vast majority of customers who had been without electricty Monday night.

Approximately 450 customers were still affected by a pole fire in the area of Bayfield Street and Cundles Road East.

Additionally, 33 customers were without power in the Cundles East and Janine Street area, also due to a pole fire.

There was also still a pocket of less than 20 customers without electricity in the Shirley Avenue area due to an unspecified problem which was under investigation.

*************************

The first winter storm of the season has left thousands of Barrie residents without power tonight.

More than 2,200 Alectra customers are without power in Barrie's northwest end Monday night due to a hydro pole fire near Livingstone and Anne streets.

Affected areas are around Anne Street North, Bayfield Street, Cundles Road East and West, Dunlop Street West, Edgehill Drive, Ferndale Drive North, Leacock Drive, Miller Drive, and Sunnidale Road.

At 7:15 p.m., no estimated time of restoration was available.

More than 900 customers are also without power in the east end near Duckworth and Grove streets due to another pole fire in that area of the city.

The affected area is around Alliance Boulevard, Cundles East, Rose Street, St. Vincent Street, and Steele Street.

There is no ETA on restoration, either.
