On April 23, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) will hold the 35th Model United Nations (UN) event. Participants will debate the issues of rare earth mineral mining, transnational organized crime, and mental health.

Each student will assume the role of a delegate representing a different country from one of five regions around the world. The delegate will represent and debate the interests, beliefs, and ideals of their respective country in small regional groups, then students will present their country's stance on the issues in a general assembly of delegates.

Over 150 students representing nine SCDSB secondary schools are expected to participate in this student-run event.

The Model UN runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the area of Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
