Testing has captured 196 new COVID cases in the region since Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Provincial testing is limited to certain high-risk groups, and therefore the results are an underestimation of the true number of positive COVID cases in the community.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 34,137 cases of COVID-19 with 32,107 of those cases recovered and 389 cases ending in death.

In the last six months, 77 fully vaccinated people (at least two doses) and fewer than five partially vaccinated have died after contracting COVID. Over the same time period, 53 unvaccinated people have died after contracting COVID-19. All of the deaths have been people over 11 years old.

About 86 per cent of the population over 11 years old has been fully vaccinated with two or more doses and 12 per cent of the same population group is unvaccinated. About 15 per cent of the population aged five and over is unvaccinated. (Percentages are now based on 2021 Census population data.)
