49-year old Edmond Teelucksingh of Mississauga is charged with fraud. OPP handout.

The Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit has charged an area businessman in connection with an alleged investment fraud.

Police say they launched an investigation in May 2013 when a local resident reported he had invested over $50,000 in what he believed was a real estate venture in 2010.

A suspect worked out of a business in the Nottawasaga area and also operated independently but police won't reveal the name of the business or its exact location.

Investigators believe there may be others in the community that fell victim to various investment schemes and police are encouraging them to contact Nottawasaga OPP.

Charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 is 49-year old Edmond Teelucksingh of Mississauga.

Potential victims are asked to call the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
