The Georgian Grizzlies men’s basketball team travelled to take on the Canadore Panthers on Sunday afternoon in North Bay.
The Grizzlies struggled to score out of the gate and trailed the Panthers by 10 points after the game’s opening frame.
From the second quarter on the Grizzlies took over, outscoring the Panthers 65-44 the rest of the way to lead Georgian to a 73-62 victory.
Anthony Meggo (Whitby) led the Grizzlies with a game-high 22 point performance while teammate Nikyle Williams-McIntosh (Newmarket) had a season-high, 21-point effort off the bench.
With two games remaining in their schedule, the Grizzlies hold a 9-9 record on the season and they currently sit in a tie for fifth place in the OCAA east division standings.
Georgian will host the George Brown Huskies (15-3) in their final regular season home game on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. Prior to tip-off, the Grizzlies will recognize their graduating seniors in a special ceremony.
The Grizzlies will then wrap up their regular season when they travel to take on the team they are chasing in the standings, the Centennial Colts (10-8) on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Toronto, ON.
Georgian College will host the 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship from Feb. 28 to Mar. 2 at the Georgian Athletic Centre on the Barrie campus.
The top eight teams from across the province will be at Georgian for three days of thrilling competition as we determine who will be crowned the gold medalists and earn a trip to the CCAA National Basketball Championship.
Tickets for the 2019 OCAA belairdirect Men’s Basketball Championship will be available the week of the event including full tournament passes for $20 each or $10 each per-day. Students will receive 50 per cent off tickets for the Championship.
Georgian will play their first game of the tournament on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. against a to be determined opponent.
