Georgian Kodiaks finish in top 30 at Vegas invitational

Team returns to the lanes in competition in Columbus Ohio on Jan. 12, 13

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - The Georgian Kodiaks placed 26th last week at the Glenn Carlson Invitational at South Point Lanes, Las Vegas, their first Tier 1 event of the 2018-2019 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.

The tournament was split between two events, the Glenn Carlson and the Collegiate Shootout. A total of 36 men's varsity teams bowled nine traditional games total pinfall with the top 16 teams advancing to match play.  

The Georgian Kodiaks were consistent through Monday and Tuesday's traditional block, posting a team average score of 924 for the nine game block, but not enough to advance to the match play round.  Team captain and senior, Karley Foster led the Kodiaks with games of 185-159-195-231-220-212-173-206-182 for a total of 1763 while co-captain Joshua Bautista followed closely with a 1747 and games of 116-190-204-204-194-197-245-228-169.

Webber International captured the Championship title over Urbana University posting a perfect game in the final match.

At the Collegiate Shootout, the second Tier 1 tournament, the Kodiaks had a slow start to its opening block Wednesday but quickly chipped away to finished 19th with 8342. Sophomore, Joshua Bautista, took individual Kodiak honors by finishing 29th with games of 206-203-187-245-187-160 posting an 1188 total.  Freshman, Lucas Holland was 45th with 1154 and was followed by Senior, Kenton Schatz’s 1149.

Webber International once again took home the championship title, while William Penn placed second and Midland third.

As of Dec. 2, based on power points, the Kodiaks are sitting in 63rd after five events. At the end of the regular season (February), college teams must be in the top 80 to be invited to the Sectionals in March 2019.  

Up next
Kodiaks will be enjoying some much needed down time with family and friends over the holiday season.  They will be back on the lanes Jan. 7 in preparation for a very busy tournament and travel schedule. First up is the Buckeye Baker Classic in Columbus Ohio Jan. 12, 13.
