Georgian College and Skills Ontario are teaming up to host a free skilled trades and technology information event for young women and youth who identify as female.

The event is for students in grades 7 to 9 and their parents or supporters, with the goal of inspiring young women to consider a career in skilled trades and technologies.

There will be an opportunity to network and take part in hands-on activities, including 3D printing, MIG welding, soldering, hair foiling and hair tinselling.

The event will take place Feb. 10 — one day before International Day of Women and Girls in Science — from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Peter B. Moore Advanced Technology Centre (N building, near the roundabout), first and third floors, at Georgian’s Barrie Campus, 1 Georgian Dr.

More than 100 people will be in attendance, including students, Georgian employees, and women who work in skilled trades and technologies.

The keynote speaker, electrical apprentice Dee Durant, will speak from 10:45 to 11 a.m.
