GEORGIAN COLLEGE

Under the theme “Driving Innovation Forward,” the 31st annual Georgian Auto Show zooms into the Barrie Campus Friday, June 3 through Sunday, June 5.

It’s the largest outdoor, student-run auto show in North America. The event is organized and staffed by students in the Automotive Business School of Canada.

Chris Anderson, the 2016 Student Director of Marketing and Media, is thrilled with the level of support from industry – including manufacturers and sponsors.

“This year we welcome 20 manufacturers, representing 19 brands, to the Barrie Campus. We have modelled the show theme on the high-tech, fast-paced automotive industry, with a focus on what’s to come,” said Anderson.

Last year’s show attracted 11,000 visitors from across Ontario and organizers expect a similar audience in 2016.

Students at the Automotive Business School of Canada carry out all show tasks, including marketing, sponsorship, recruitment and training, physical resources and community events.

With an experience unlike any other, the 2016 show offers something for everyone – from the classic car fan and high-powered sports car enthusiast, to the couple looking for the perfect new family vehicle.

Visitors don’t want to miss out on any of the planned special events. These include the Electric Vehicle Experience for a greener drive option; an expanded Kidzone with interactive activities; and a new guest speaker series where visitors can learn where the future of the automobile is heading.

There are many opportunities for visitors to immerse themselves in the technologies of tomorrow.

Professional drivers will be on hand to take brave participants around the Pfaff auto track course. Guests can “drift” into excitement on a wet track that matches the driver’s skill with the power of performance vehicles.

All it takes is a small donation to the Fort McMurray relief fund. A live auction is planned for Sunday, June 5 at 1 p.m.

Many of the items have been donated by automotive manufacturers and local businesses. All proceeds support scholarships for students of the Automotive Business School of Canada.

“We would like to thank everyone who contributes to our show and our program. It is truly a one-of-a-kind experience for students,” said Anderson. “The Automotive Business School of Canada is a place where students expand their horizons with the full support of the industry – this ensures the success of each student and provides each of them with the confidence and skills they need to succeed.”

“Studying at the ABSC at Georgian is one of the best decisions I have ever made. It allows me to be part of a great industry and school that challenge us all, making us a part of a truly innovative community,” he said.

The show runs Friday, June 3 from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday June 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily admission is $7 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

A special weekend admission rate of $15 per person is also available, and parking is included in all prices. Discount tickets are available at GeorgianAutoShow.ca for an all-in price of $5.
