A gastrointestinal outbreak has been declared on the Barrie hospital's specialized seniors care unit.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), in collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Six patients are symptomatic, according to RVH. All patients are being tested and enhanced cleaning measures are underway.

Admissions to the unit are on hold and visitors are not permitted. However, RVH says some exceptions may apply.
