Drive-thru Ribfest is back in Barrie this weekend

Ribfest Drive-Thru will run Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the north side parking lot of Georgian Mall

Just like last year, Barrie's Ribfest has found a way to get the food to you and money to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH).

Barrie Ribfest is back this weekend, starting Friday, in the parking lot of the former Sears location at the north side of Georgian Mall. This is the second year the event has been set up at the Georgian Mall parking lot as a drive-thru so as to help keep everyone socially distanced and following health guidelines.

Stacey Zubczyk, event co-ordinator, told BarrieToday.com the event begins set-up on Thursday and will be ready to go for Friday morning.

“There is a lot of work to put into it but it was really well-received last year when it actually looked like we wouldn't be able to have the event,” Zubczyk. “People love their ribs and pulled pork so to be able to keep Ribfest alive and helping RVH is a great thing.”

Last year’s Ribfest raised just over $8,500 in support of in-patient care at RVH and saw approximately 3,000 vehicles participate.

The entry fee is $3.

McCowan and Associates Ltd. are helping to host the event, which will see three popular rib companies dish up meals.

Camp 31 Barbeque, Sticky Fingers BBQ, and Billy Bones’ BBQ will be serving up their award-winning ribs, beef brisket and pulled pork.

Zubczyk said this year there will also be Tiny Tom Donuts and Ontario CornRoasters on-hand for an extra treat.

“We wanted to make this as close to the annual event as we could and this year we were able to add the donuts and roasted corn to the menu,” said Zubczyk. “We hope to top last year’s event for cars and donations.”

The Ribfest Drive-Thru will run Friday, Aug. 13, Saturday, Aug. 14 and Sunday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
