ROYAL VICTORIA REGIONAL HEALTH CENTRE

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) has received a $100,000 commitment from Meridian Credit Union.

The six regional branches, including the three offices in Barrie as well as in Penetanguishene, Collingwood and Orillia, recently announced a pledge which will support the new Child and Youth Mental Health program at RVH.

“We are so fortunate to have generous donors across the region who support and understand RVH’s regional role,” says John Byles, chair, RVH Foundation. “Meridian Credit Union understands the urgent need for mental health services closer to home. We are the only region in the province without Child and Youth Mental Health inpatient services. This gift from Meridian Credit Union will go a long way to help RVH bring these much needed services to children and youth facing a mental health challenge.”

Child and Youth Mental Health is one of five areas of focus in the Hearts and Minds campaign – along with advanced cardiac care, child and youth mental health services, women’s cancer services, and teaching and research. The campaign has now reached more than $21.7 million of its $25 million goal.

"We know the positive difference RVH makes in people’s lives and in the communities in our region which it serves. That's why Meridian and all of our local leadership and membership are proud to announce our company’s $100,000 ‘gift’ to the RVH Foundation in support of Child and Youth Mental Health,” says Jason Teal, the senior director and regional manager, Commercial Services at Meridian Credit Union. “All six regional branches as well as the local commercial office will work together over the next four years to meet this commitment through staff initiatives.”

Meridian Credit Union has already raised $17,000 towards the $100,000 goal through a corporate donation, a charity golf tournament and a local BBQ.

“We wholeheartedly support this health centre and hope our gift of funds will help bring this urgent need closer to home for the youth in our region,” says Teal.
