Upon coming forward police have spoken with the owner of the dog. A Barrie woman contacted the victims family and the public health unit shortly after the incident.

Further investigation found the mix breed dog named "Phoebi" to be current on all her vaccinations and she had been quarantined for 10 days as a pre-caution. Police will not be laying any charges in relation to the incident.

Police are reminding residents to always keep their dogs on a leash when in a public place, aside from off-leash recreation parks.

If your dog bites someone, make sure the victim gets immediate medical attention. Any dog bite should be reported to the local Heath Unit, whether by the owner, the victim or by the medical professional providing care.

Original release

On Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1:30 p.m., an 8-year-old Barrie boy was bitten while playing at Cudia Park, located at 247 Dodson Road, in the City of Barrie.  

The victim had been playing on the swing set when an unleashed dog lunged up and bit him. He received a puncture wound to his left buttocks, thigh area and several scratches to his left ear.

The victim was treated at a near-by clinic and later released.

Police are attempting to locate the owner of the dog to confirm the dog’s health. The Barrie SPCA was notified of the incident, and advised police there have been no recent cases of rabies reported in the City of Barrie.

The dog is described as;

  • Black and White in colour
  • Approximately 50lbs.
  • Believed to have the name “Phoebi”
