Danny Michel plays the Temple Lounge tonight

A trip to Barrie a number of years ago made Danny Michel fall in love with the city and its people

A singer from the Kitchener-Waterloo area plays Barrie tonight and has a personal reason to love the city by the bay.

Danny Michel will be at Donaleigh’s Temple Lounge on Sunday night at 8 p.m. and while he admits his musical styles can vary, he knows everyone will have a good time.

“It’s a little all over the map,” Michel told BarrieToday of his musical style. “Each of my albums has a different feel but when the songs are stripped down to acoustic campfire version, they're all cohesive. Travel has been a major contributor to the style of music I write as I've recorded in Belize and aboard a Russian ice-breaker in the Arctic.

"These days, I'm enjoying my studio in the woods.”

Michel loves playing live in front of crowds all over but a trip to Barrie a number of years ago and the result of that trip has made him fall in love with the city and its people.

“I met a friend in a parking lot in Barrie so we could ride together from there for a trip,” said Michel. “I set my things down beside his car while he started loading and I went to park my car. And we just drove away. Leaving my guitar in the parking lot.

"I debated for a long time whether I should publicly admit it, but eventually posted the story on social media hoping someone might have some info. After one day I heard from Bruno, he had my guitar and I later went and picked it up at his bakery. I was so lucky.”

Tonight’s show is a great way to end the weekend and stay inside from the snow-covered streets and while Michel will have some of bis loved old material, he hopes the crowd will like some new tunes he has been playing as well.

“I just released my new album White & Gold in October so there will be some new songs from the record, mixed in with some older tunes and some stories,”. “I got really hands on with this last project, from recording most instruments myself in my studio, to self-producing, to directing the music videos. I'm really looking forward to sharing the new material.”

The show is at 8 p.m. at the Temple Lounge, located at 28 Dunlop St. E.

Tickets are $25.
