SPRINGWATER TWP. – Shortly before 6 p.m. on July 24, 2019, Springwater Fire & Emergency Services were called to a report of a structure fire and loud sounds on Finlay Mill Road in Midhurst.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found heavy fire involvement in the two-car, attached garage that had spread to the roof of the main dwelling. Firefighters from the Midhurst, Minesing and Elmvale stations began an aggressive attack to quickly contain the fire, but the structure sustained major smoke and water damage.

The homeowner was alerted to the fire upon hearing loud popping noises. They then evacuated the home and called 911.

No injuries were reported.

“Thank you to our team of trained firefighters who managed to quickly bring the blaze under control,” said Fire Chief Ian Gavet. “Thank you also to the Ontario Provincial Police officers, County of Simcoe paramedics, and Hydro One personnel who attended the scene to provide critical support.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious.
