Sadlon Arena in Barrie, Saturday, Aug. 29, FIVE bands will hit the stage featuring local singer John Anderson, and last year’s Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist David Boyd Janes as the headliner.

The drive-in style show will begin with gates opening at 5 p.m., with the opening act Evan Farrell on at 6 p.m. Others to perform are Dustin Bird, and from Calgary, Alta., Cole Bradley who is flying the band in for the concert.

Countryfest Productions event organizer Forrest Jones says: “The entertainment industry was the first impacted and will be the last to be restored – we just wanted to get people out of the house in a controlled environment and enjoy some live music for a change.” He continues, “no disrespect intended to the live feeds of bands playing online, but it just isn’t even close to the same feeling as being at a concert."

Jones is also organizing events beyond the Country Music night on Aug. 29. Coming in September is a host of shows, featuring tribute bands to Garth Brooks featuring the Singing Soldiers on Sept. 5, an incredible performance featuring award-winning artist Paul Anthony in his Johnny Cash tribute Sept. 12, followed by Sept. 19 with a Bon Jovi tribute and last, a tribute to Sir Elton John on Sept. 26 to round out the series.

Shows can be attended by a car full of people for as low as $75, so not even $20 per person.

We have decided to interrupt the show near the end, since we are at the Barrie Colts parking lot, to take a moment and honour and remember head coach Dale Hawerchuk, who recently passed away after a lengthy cancer battle.

Jones continues: “We want everyone to come and have a good time, but we feel to take a moment out of respect for Mr. Hawerchuk, his family and teammates is the right thing to do. He was such an important part of the Barrie organization, and as I kid I watched him on TV back in the '80s."
