Collingwood man found dead, second man charged with murder

A Collingwood man has been charged with first-degree murder after a man was found dead in a downtown apartment. 

Collingwood OPP announced the charges today (Jan. 15) connected to a Jan. 14 incident in the area of Hurontario and Third Street. 

Police won't say how they were called to the scene, but they went to a residence at 8:20 a.m. on Jan. 14 and discovered a deceased man.

Police said Donald Caines, 57, was found dead, and Lawrence Robert Caines, 54, has been charged with his murder. Lawrence Caines has been arrested and remains in police custody.

Lawrence Caines was arrested soon after police discovered the body of Donald Caines. OPP won't yet say how, or if, the two men are related.

Police are still investigating, and a post-mortem is scheduled for Jan. 16. 

The homicide investigation involves Collingwood OPP Crime Unit with the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and the OPP Forensic Identification Services.
