Close call for pilot, four skydivers at Innisfil air strip

Skydiving plane bounces off runway

Two passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries after a light plane skidded off a runway into a ditch in Innisfil.

The crash happened just before 12:30 p.m. Friday when the plane was taking off from the grass airfield at Sky Dive Toronto located at the 10th Sideroad and 4th Line.

"Initial reports are the pilot lost control, it started to bounce and ended up in the ditch. It didn't flip or anything but there is structural damage. The wing is bent pretty good. The prop's bent," said South Simcoe Police Const. Rich Williamson.

South Simcoe Police responded to the skydiving facility along with Simcoe County Paramedics and Innisfil Fire.

Four skydivers were on board the small, single engine aircraft along with the pilot who was unhurt.

Two passengers were taken to hospital with what's believed to be a broken arm and a broken leg.

Two others were treated by paramedics at the scene.

All are expected to make a full recovery.

Police say the weather at the time of the crash was fine, sunny with a light wind.

The Transportation Safety Board will be conducting an investigation assisted by South Simcoe Police.
