NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF BARRIE
*************************
Effective today (Tuesday, Jan. 18), residents who receive a parking ticket in paid parking areas from the City of Barrie can have the ticket cancelled if they provide proof of purchase (a receipt) from a Barrie restaurant in an amount equal to or greater than the set fine, within five days after receiving the ticket. The set fine is noted on the bottom of the ticket.

The city is committed to finding creative ways to encourage residents to support local, Barrie-based restaurants through curbside pick-up and takeout options while provincial restrictions are in place.

The city originally implemented this program from April to June 2021. Following council approval at last night’s meeting, the program is now in place for anyone receiving a ticket in paid parking areas for any period that restaurants are closed for in-person dining and restricted to take-out only due to COVID-19 mandates in 2022.

The program does not apply to tickets related to safety matters, or overnight on-street parking restrictions.

To submit a request for the cancellation of a parking ticket, residents can email a copy of their ticket and restaurant receipt to [email protected].
