NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF BARRIE
*************************
The City of Barrie remains under a Freezing Rain Warning. Freezing rain is slowly transitioning to rain across the region, but will linger into this morning as temperatures struggle to rise above the freezing mark. It should change to rain this afternoon.

Due to ice accumulations combined with brisk northeast winds, there is still a risk of power outages due to fallen tree limbs and power lines.

For service requests or questions email [email protected] call 705-726-4242 or use the Pingstreet mobile app, available for download via www.barrie.ca/pingstreet.

Road maintenance
Road crews were out all night applying salt and scraping routes. Operations are continuing at this time. City sanders were dispatched at 4 a.m. and are continuing to clear slush off priority routes.

City plows were dispatched at midnight to plow the residential routes. They are continuing until 4 p.m. and then will be back in at midnight tonight to complete operations.

Priority sidewalks were being cleared through the night and are currently in operation. Crews started on residential sidewalks 4 a.m. Downtown sidewalk approaches were completed by 8 a.m. this morning.

To help avoid potential flooding, plows have been trying to push the snow back to the curb. If residents can do so safely, please help to clear the catch basins near your property. If residents notice any flooding, please call Service Barrie at 705-726-4242 to report.

Residents can track the progress of crews at www.barrie.ca/PlowTracker.

Curbside Collection
Curbside waste collection is cancelled today. Collection this week will be delayed by one day, with Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday. Please ensure that materials are curbside by 7 a.m. for collection, out of the path of snow removal equipment and not on a snow bank.

Should it snow or if snow removal equipment covers collection materials after they have been placed out for collection, it is the responsibility of the resident/owner to remove the snow from their materials so they are accessible and visible to the collector.

Recreation
All recreation centres are open today, however there are some programs cancelled due to the inclement weather. Check www.barrie.ca/RecCancellations for the latest.
