The City of Barrie has partnered with The Focus on Simcoe Photography Festival that will be taking place throughout Simcoe County for the month of June. The City is hosting a featured exhibit entitled “This Was There Then” in Barrie’s downtown, highlighting images from Barrie’s past.

“The City of Barrie is proud to partner with the Focus on Simcoe Photography Festival to help showcase Barrie’s tremendous community of talented artists and our rich history,” said Karen Dubeau, Director of the Creative Economy.

“With the city growing and so many wonderful changes taking place in our downtown creative corridor, this exhibit is a valuable opportunity to look back at some of the original buildings and downtown features and reflect on how our community has evolved.”

The “This Was There Then” exhibit features digital images from Barrie’s Historical Archive that will be on display for the duration of the festival in the lower lobby of the Five Points Theatre, presented by Pratt Homes & Development. The theatre will be open to the public for the month of June from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday. The works will also be available for sale at the theatre.

The Focus on Simcoe Photography Festival is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to increasing tourism throughout Simcoe County. This is the inaugural year for the annual photography festival, which matches businesses with local photographers to create mini galleries throughout Barrie and Simcoe County.
