The official campaign fell $40,000 short of the fundraising goal, but online donations can still be made to Barrie & District Christmas Cheer.
Donations topped $209, 000 when the campaign ended Saturday night, surging from $169,000 on Friday afternoon.
"It's been a wonderful day," said Cheer spokesperson Deb James, confirming that $40,000 was collected in the past 24 hours.
"The hampers are packed and the toys are almost ready. We have $40, 000 left to reach our goal and we are all looking forward to the most rewarding 2 days of the year" as volunteers pack and distribute hampers to local families.
Christmas Cheer Headquarters is closed today, but donations online continue at christmascheerbarrie.com.
Distribution starts Monday, food and toys are Tuesday.
The campaign is helping 1,800 area families this year.
