Barrie Police say great police work from uniform officers led to two arrests in connection with two recent bank robberies in Barrie.

"Real police work, for sure," said Barrie Police Const. Nicole Rodgers.

Tuesday night at 10:30 p.m., Barrie Police uniform officers tried to pull over two men in a stolen motor vehicle at Dunlop Street West and Boys Street.

Both men fled on foot from the vehicle but were quickly caught by officers and Barrie Police K9 unit.

The vehicle and the men inside were believed to be responsible for the Scotia Bank robbery on Jan. 6 as well as the CIBC robbery on Jan. 11.

Police say further investigation revealed Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police and Peel Regional Police also had these suspects linked to similar armed bank robberies in their area.

A 16-year-old Sarnia man and a 24-year-old Alberta man have been charged with the two robberies in Barrie.

Further charges are pending for two other robberies in York Region and one each in Toronto and Peel.

They were held overnight at the Barrie Police Service for a bail hearing Wednesday.

The Alberta man is also wanted on outstanding criminal charge warrants from Calgary Police Service and will be returned to his home province once charges here are dealt with in court.
