On Wednesday, Jan. 30, Mayor Jeff Lehman was presented with the Barrie Sea Cadet Challenge Coin to celebrate the corps 75th anniversary.

The coin was given in traditional military fashion through a handshake from Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Katherine Wilkinson in
appreciation for his years of participation and support of the Sea Cadet program in Barrie.

Mayor Jeff Lehman gratefully accepted the Barrie Sea Cadet Challenge Coin from CPO1 Katherine Wilkinson and Navy League Branch president Diane Chislett with the words 'Bravo Zulu' engraved on the back to signify a job well done.

Rain or shine, Mayor Lehman has honourably committed his time through parades and ceremonies alongside our cadets.

The Barrie Sea Cadets are proud to have you as our mayor.

CPO1 Katherine Wilkinson took time to tell the mayor all about her experience in the Sea Cadets program. She proudly recounted her time in the program which, most recently, has taken her from coast to coast, sailing the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and an international exchange to the United States.

COP1 Katherine Wilkinson, who began her time in the program as a quiet and shy cadet, now leads the Barrie Cadets.

Facing many challenges, she has committed her time to leading her Corps and carries many responsibilities that come with the
position as the Cadets Coxswain.

Through an opportunity where she was able to observe an operation at South Lake Regional Hospital, she was inspired to embark on a career in the medical field. In saying that CPO1 Katherine Wilkinson will be continuing her studies next year at the University of New Brunswick in the nursing program.
