Mothy Chheng of Bradford made another brief appearance in Bradford court Thursday on a charge of attempted murder.

The charge stems from an attack on a co-worker at the Flex-N-Gate plant in Bradford just over a year ago, on July 4, 2018.

Khampouviene Sourapha was attacked with what was later described as a “steel automotive assembly.”

She was treated on the scene, then transported to a Toronto trauma centre, where she underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition.

Chheng, who was 27 at the time, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. He was remanded in custody at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishene, where he was deemed fit to stand trial in March.

At Thursday's appearance, Chheng’s lawyer, Edward Pruschi, confirmed the next court appearances will be Sept. 18 and Oct. 11 in Bradford. He advised the judge that Chheng’s defence will be ready to “proceed with those dates.”

In the meantime, Pruschi asked that Chheng continue to be remanded in custody and receive medical services at the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences in Whitby.

The prosecution had no objections.

Pruschi could then be seen explaining the exchange to the prisoner, before Chheng, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, was led from the prisoner’s box.
