Baskets for Zach raises $4,000

Charity event included team of politicians and a lot of fun

A celebrity basketball game featuring Barrie's Mayor Jeff Lehman, MP Alex Nuttall and about a half dozen city councillors hit the courts at Georgian College Wednesday night to support Zach Makes Tracks.

Baskets for Zach was a spin-off of Zach Hofer's fundraising and awareness initiative for the Child and Youth Mental Health program at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

The Government Generals squared off against Zach's All-Stars with players ranging from highly skilled to huffing and puffing.

MPP Anne Hoggarth was among cheering spectators.

The mission of the shy, humble 13-year old Barrie boy is ultimately to run, walk, bike and scooter to Ottawa starting Aug. 13 and arriving Sept. 10.

His new fundraising goal is $50,000.

Zach Makes Tracks has already raised over $25,000 and last night's basketball game adds $4,000- plus more.
