Barrie's Live Music Show playing an encore to raise funds for non-profit

Barrie Families Unite Benefit Concert takes place Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. at Taco Alley

The Barrie’s Live Music Show will be hosting their second live in-person concert fundraiser this Tuesday.

Brothers Jake and Jorden Mathias are co-founders of Barrie’s Live Music Show and say they're excited to run live shows more frequently. The Aug. 17 event will be in support of Barrie Families Unite (BFU), a local not-for-profit that also got its start because of the pandemic and helps wherever needed in the community.

The event at Taco Alley will see more than 10 musical acts taking the outdoor stage at the makeshift patio located at 23 Collier St.

“This show on Tuesday came together to help Barrie Families Unite raise funds for a new building as their old one was not going to be available soon,” said Jake. “This was a great way for us to help an organization who has also been helping so many during the last year and half.”

Jorden said there are many plans in the works for helping the community while also giving back to the music scene.

“We’ll always continue to raise money for those who need it, but we also have been making plans to help up-and-coming local musicians,” said Jorden.

BFU founder Nikki Glahn told BarrieToday.com the group is very excited to be involved with another helping organization.

“It's been a tough year and a half for many agencies and organizations that are trying to raise money for charity through events they have had to cancel,” said Glahn. “Events are the main way organizations raise funds needed and they were pretty slim at the start of the pandemic.”

As a newly formed not-for-profit, BFU provides food, clothing, medical aids/devices and infant needs to low-income families in the community.

“We try to help those who really need it right now and thankfully we have been able to help many people and families,” said Glahn. “Not even just through an event or big fundraiser, but often our Facebook page is used as a way for someone with a need to post that need where someone else can help out. It has been a blessing for some in the community.”

The BFU Facebook page currently has 14,000 members. As for the Barrie’s Live Music Show page, it is at 12,400 members and growing everyday while also having raised over $100,000 for local charities by hosting virtual concerts throughout the pandemic.
