Statistics Canada is reporting Barrie's unemployment rate at 3.4 per cent in November.

It's the lowest rate in decades, according to Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman who reacted to the good news Friday via twitter.

Lehman also noted that Barrie's jobless rate is the 2nd lowest rate among Canadian cities and a sign of a 'very strong local economy.'

The national jobless rate fell to 5.9 per cent, the lowest since 2008.

Statistics Canada numbers showed the economy produced 79,500 net new jobs in November and drove the jobless rate down 0.4 percentage points from 6.3 per cent the month before.
