On Nov. 13, 2021, the Circle Theatre in Alliston, Ont., will host the premiere of Sara Snow and the Seven Dancers. Produced by With Grace Productions and co-directed by Lineen Doung and 14-year-old director and screenwriter Arianna Grace Goarley.

The red-carpet event will kick off at 6 p.m. providing the audience with an unique opportunity to meet the cast and crew. The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer period, open to both media and the public.

A competitive dancer and theatre major at Moving Arts in Barrie, Goarley was always intrigued by film and used the time during lockdown to study the genre and develop the script. In the true spirit of collaboration, the film also includes an original song written and created by local songwriter, Anna Goldsmith.

Goldsmith, who is also 14, has released the movie’s theme song, Shine, as a single and is in the process of producing an album.

The concept of the film began to percolate during the production of A Dance for Cinderella, an award-winning short film, which Goarley also wrote.

“My goal is to create a trilogy of revamped fairy tales with modern problems because today’s teens can’t really relate to the challenges that faced Cinderella and Snow White,” she said.

Sara Snow and the Seven Dancers addresses the core challenges faced by today’s teens, including bullying, peer pressure, and self-identity, all framed through the lens of dance.

Goarley hopes that the audience will both fall in love with the beauty of dance and carry forward the belief that you don’t need to compromise your own dreams to fit the needs of others.

“The image of the strict ballerina is a metaphor for confining yourself to a certain mindset and style, “ said Goarley. “It’s so important to allow your true self to shine. The film is about growth, finding yourself, and recognizing that you are not confined to a certain set of standards.”

Sara Snow and the Seven Dancers is the sixth film that Goarley has been involved in, and the second that she has written.
