Barrie police searching for suspect after violent break and enter

Homeowner, putting out family pet, was forced into his home and required medical treatment

A violent break and enter in the central part of the city has police warning residents to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Barrie Police are searching for a man who forced his way into a home on Cygnus Crescent in the Ardagh Road and Mapleton Avenue area overnight on April 3 and assaulted the homeowner.

The homeowner was letting a family pet outside into the yard when they were approached by an unknown man who then forced his way into the home and left the homeowner needing medical treatment.

Barrie Police’s Peter Leon told BarrieToday that authorities were made aware of the incident shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday and they are hopeful the community will remain vigilant regardless of where they are.

“We have conducted a canvass of the area and through the media release that we have issued, we are hopeful that the public always takes safety into consideration but also in this area will have a heightened level of vigilance and awareness,” said Leon.

“Although this appears to random, police are reminding the public that any suspicious persons seen anywhere at any time should always be reported to the police. It is always better to err on the side of caution, but at the same time, calling the police could prevent a crime from occurring or help in solving crimes too.”

Detectives have determined that the person, who is believed to be responsible for this assault, is described as:

  • Male, white, late 30s to early 40s, 5’8-5’10’ tall, heavy stocky build, brown eyes, dark buzz cut style hair and a scruffy dark beard
  • Wearing blue jeans and a brown zippered hoodie
