Barrie Navy League finds a new home (12 photos)

The move brings added space for the Navy League

The Barrie Navy League has marched into a new home.

After years at the Barrie Armoury located at 37 Parkside Drive, the BNL entered their new "ship" last night with pomp and circumstance. A band played while a parade took place in the gymnasium at the Ferris Lane Community Church at 49 Ferris Lane.

Lieutenant Commander/Chaplain Michael Cassidy was very happy with the new building and knows it will benefit the mission of the organization.

"We enjoyed our time at the armoury but it was getting a little crowded and we really needed some space," said Cassidy. "We need the room available to teach our kids about respect; respect for themselves, respect for each other and respect for their parents which in turn will lead to respect for their elders and teachers."

The organization is for children aged 8 to 12 and prepares the kids for cadets afterwards. FLCC Pastor Mark Coulter was on-hand for the event to welcome the new guests and was in awe of the time put into the event.

"They really made a big deal out of this and that's really something special," said Coulter. "This was a no-brainer for us as we were glad to have them come aboard. We have the space and enjoy trying to accommodate the many organizations in town; this is a great night."
