Barrie Colts spread some joy with crash victims at RVH

Colts captain Brandt Clarke also had a chance to share in his recent victory at the world juniors by bringing along his gold medal

Members of the Barrie Colts team visited some VIP fans this week.

Barrie Colts owner Howie Campbell, along with players Brandt Clarke and Jacob Frasca stopped by Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) to visit with Sean, Jeff and Empower Simcoe community support worker Melanie Smith, who are recovering from their injuries after being struck by a vehicle outside Sadlon Centre Arena on Dec. 1, 2022.

A 32-year-old Barrie woman has been charged with three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm in connection to the crash.

Smith is currently recovering at home, however both Jeff and Sean, who are clients of Empower Simcoe, are still receiving care at RVH.

All three are reportedly continuing to improve in their recovery.

While out and about, the team members also paid a visit to Empower Simcoe to visit Ray, who was the victim of a separate hit-and-run collision while on his way home from a Colts game in November 2022. In order to safely extricate him from his vehicle, emergency personnel had to cut through Ray’s beloved Colts jacket.

During the visit, Ray was given a new Barrie Colts jacket and hat from Clarke and Frasca and the opportunity to model Clarke’s gold medal, which he brought home from the recent IIHF world junior hockey championships in Halifax.
