The Collingwood Vet Services Blackhawks were making fans happy as the winners in the peewee division of the first ever Silver Stick Collingwood House League/Local League Qualifiers.

The new divisions helped celebrate the kickoff to the 20th edition of Silver Stick Collingwood.

Collingwood started quickly and held off a strong effort from Innisfil Winterhawks for a 5-0 win. Ty Miller got the shutout and Carston Kuiper and Simon Ruzylo chipped in two goals each.

The day had started with Barrie Blue Thunder atoms capping off a five-win weekend by dropping Mitchell 6-1. Barrie allowed one goal all weekend on the way to the title.

In the bantam final, a quick start by Mitchell helped the Meteors claim a 3-0 win over Collingwood. Joey Adams had all three goals for the winners, while Kody Eisler turned back everything from the Collingwood shooters for the shut out.

All three winners now advance to the International Silver Stick finals in Pelham in January.

This coming weekend, the 20th anniversary of Silver Stick Collingwood continues with the AE tournaments in atom, peewee and bantam, and the house league/local league midget division.

The games start Friday morning at both Collingwood rinks and in Thornbury. Admission is free.
