Barrie band opened for Alberta guy up north in the Sault (9 photos)

And they won a contest to do it

Multi-award winning Canadian country artist Brett Kissel kicked off his Ice, Snow, and 30 Below Tour in Sault Ste. Marie Thursday night with a very special opening guest.

Barrie’s Kansas Stone was one of 10 acts that won the opportunity to open for him during the Ontario leg of the tour thanks to his ‘Kick It With Kissel’ competition.

Almost 100 acts threw their hats in the ring for the chance to share the stage with the rising star.

Contest participants entered by posting a video to social media with the hashtag #KickItWithKissel of them performing either an original song, a favourite cover, or one of Kissel’s own compositions.

Winners were chosen by a panel of professionals that included, not only Brett Kissel himself, but also Country Music Association of Ontario board members and representatives from Invictus Entertainment.

A different act will join him on stage at each stop of the tour that includes shows in Sudbury, Hamilton, Guelph, Barrie, and others before heading to the East Coast.

When Kissel visits Barrie on Jan. 20 to perform at the Georgian Theatre, he’ll have Port Credit’s Marshall Dane with him as well as The Small Town Girls.
