MISSISSAUGA – The Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) has named Alectra Utilities the Public Power Utility of the Year as part of its 2020 Power Players Awards. Alectra is the first Canadian Utility to win this prestigious award. Alectra is being recognized for the achievements of its innovation hub, the Green Energy & Technology Centre (GRE&T Centre).

The GRE&T Centre makes energy innovation come to life by identifying, developing and accelerating emerging, clean, and customer-friendly energy solutions. This award highlights the following GRE&T Centre programs: AlectraDrive, GridExchange , POWER.HOUSE, and POWER.HOUSE Hybrid as notable initiatives.

“Being recognized as the Public Power Utility of the Year by the Smart Electric Power Alliance is confirmation that we’re on the right energy innovation path,” said Brian Bentz, President & CEO, Alectra Inc. “The GRE&T Centre is an exciting new initiative for us. The work that they are doing is enabling us to explore and commercialize new technologies that we can bring to our customers in the future.”

The SEPA Power Players Awards is considered a premier industry recognition that honours utilities, industry partners and individual thought leaders who provide momentum for the electric power industry’s smart transition to a clean energy future.

Earlier this year, Alectra was designated a ‘Caring Company’ from Imagine Canada and ranked third in the Best Corporate Citizens list from Corporate Knights.
