SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Forty-five schools in the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) will receive pedometers for each of their students thanks to the generosity of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.

As part of the Pedometer Project, over 21,000 SCDSB students will integrate the use of pedometers into their learning during the school day. Classes will submit pedometer data to contribute to board and school goals.

Schools, classes and students are encouraged to set individual and group step goals and to challenge themselves and each other to increase their daily activity. The pedometers will provide data that can be used to make connections to the math curriculum.

“Increasing movement throughout the day enhances our students’ ability to learn,” says Anita Simpson, Superintendent of Program and Innovation. “We’re excited to get up, get moving and see how far we can go together.”

The SCDSB will launch the Pedometer Project at W.H. Day Elementary School on January 12 at 10 a.m. The school is located at 410 Maplegrove Avenue in Bradford.

“Physical activity equips kids with important life skills like discipline, courage and teamwork,” said Landon French, President, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. “By providing pedometers to the SCDSB, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities can motivate kids to learn and grow through the power of play.”
