20 Barrie residents among 43 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka today

There are 21 people from Simcoe County and one from Muskoka District currently hospitalized with COVID-19

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 43 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths today (May 27). 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,793 cases of COVID-19 with 10,476 of those cases recovered and 245 cases ending in death.

There are 21 people from Simcoe County and one from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes five new hospitalizations since yesterday.

As of May 26, more than 292,700 Simcoe-Muskoka residents region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 49 per cent of the region's population and approximately 60 per cent of the region's adult population. Of those, 33,000 people have also received a second dose.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified). 

  • Springwater (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to close contact.
  • Barrie (20): Eight youth under 18 years old, seven people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, one person between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. One case is travel-related, one is outbreak-related, 10 are linked to close contact, and five are listed as community-acquired.
  • Innisfil (8): One youth under 17 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact and two are listed as community-acquired. 
  • Bradford (5): One person between 18 and 34 years old, and four people between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are listed as community-acquired and two are linked to close contact. 
  • Orillia (3): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission.
  • Ramara (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old. 
  • Tiny (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to close contact. 
  • Tay (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is listed as community-acquired. 
  • New Tecumseth (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to close contact. 
  • There is one new case in Muskoka, a Huntsville resident between 18 and 34 years old. 

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on May 27).
