On Oct. 22, 2023 at Liberty North, the Barrie Film Festival will welcome director Kagan Goh and additional guest Ron Korb for the brunch, post-screening Q&A, and performance, following the screening of Kagan Goh’s fascinating documentary, Stolen Memories

If you had to walk out of your present life in 48 hours, possibly never to return, what would you take with you? What would you leave behind?

Stolen Memories by Kagan Goh is a detective story about the filmmaker’s personal quest to return a photo album “stolen” from a Japanese Canadian family during the Japanese internment. Stolen Memories takes us into one of Canada’s shameful periods during World War 2, when Canadian citizens of Japanese descent were removed from their homes, some given only 48 hours to pack.

Director Kagan Goh will be joining us for a post-film discussion on his quest to return the photo album to its family, his process, and more. We’re thrilled to present this deeply affecting film, and to have him share his creative journey.

“I am an award-winning Singapore-born Chinese Canadian filmmaker with a specialization in documentary filmmaking. I have experience working on documentaries, short and feature-length films, as well as screenwriting. My mission is to use my creativity, passion, and enthusiasm to empower and inspire others to express the best of their talents and strengths in an original, fun, and exciting way.” — Kagan Goh

The director’s brunch will be held as part of the 26th Barrie Film Festival on Sunday, Oct. 22, 11 a.m. at Liberty North, 100 Caplan Ave., Unit 1, Barrie. Tickets are $40.

The 26th Barrie Film Festival runs Oct. 13 to 22, 2023. For information: www.barriefilmfestival.ca.
