Bill Welychka has been hearing for years that he should write a book.
So, he did just that.
Welychka, the longest-running VJ on MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic, will be back in his hometown of Barrie on Sept. 30 in support of his debut memoir: Bill Welychka: A Happy Has-Been: Exciting Times and Lessons Learned by One of Canada's Foremost Entertainment Journalists.
It's a celebration of his 35 years in the music industry with a foreword written by The Tragically Hip’s Paul Langlois. Partial proceeds from the book are being donated to the The White Ribbon Campaign and various women’s shelters across Canada, according to a news release.
Welychka will be at Indigo on 33 Mapleview Dr. W., on Saturday, Sept. 30 from noon until 4 p.m. His book is now available at popular bookstores and most online retailers.
In a recent interview with BarrieToday about his new book, Welychka discussed his formative years in Barrie and Innisfil.
“My last couple years of high school were at Innisdale. I was living in Thornhill and my mom wanted to retire and buy a house in Barrie, so halfway through high school I moved there,” Welychka said last month. “Barrie means a lot to me. My mom is buried there, so yeah, it means a lot.”
Living in Stroud, just outside Barrie, one of his early jobs was at the old Barrie Raceway, where he said he broke both elbows after falling off the grandstand while cleaning windows.
