This week’s Lawn Chair Luminata celebrates Pride in a joyful and fashionable way with Kinky Boots, Wednesday, June 28, Meridian Place, downtown Barrie.

Starts at dusk, weather permitting. (Rain date June 29.)

PG-13 for mature content and coarse language.

For generations, the Price family has made very sensible, very conservative shoes for men. When young Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) inherits the struggling business, he turns to an unlikely new creative consultant to save the business from imminent bankruptcy: a sassy cross-dressing cabaret singer, whose outrageous style and wild designs are a breath of fresh air in the stuffy old factory.

Awards: one win and seven nominations.

The event includes two documentary shorts highlighting the work and artists behind public art installations in downtown Barrie: The Fab Tray Project features one of the 16 participating artists, Robin Luoma; the second is The Strawberry Mural: Little by Little, a Little Becomes a Lot, which was created by and painted by Bareket Kezwer with Monica Loney.

Arrive early for Pride-themed activities with local artists Alexandra Gronfors and Vivian Heliotis. And Ian Churchward of Between Sets will be spinning vinyl tunes to boogie to ahead of the show. You can also catch the Barrie Thunder Classics Cruise Night featuring fantastic classic cars across the road at Heritage Park.

Lawnchair Luminata is hosted by the Downtown Barrie BIA, in partnership with the Barrie Film Festival, with support from Meridian Credit Union and 107.5 KOOL FM. Pride Movie Night brought to you by our friends at Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery and The Queens Hotel.
