Classical concerts on tap for Barrie in March, April

Saturday's concert featuring Toronto Concert Orchestra and opera stars performing A Night at the Opera is a makeup date from March 2020

Barrie Concerts is back!

On Saturday, March 18, a makeup concert featuring Toronto Concert Orchestra and two opera stars performing A Night at the Opera will be performed at Hiway Church on Anne Street North. Originally scheduled for March 21, 2020, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers say masking is required for the audience and Saturday’s concert will be a straight 65- to 70-minute performance, with no intermission, given respiratory viruses are still a concern.

Three remaining makeup concerts from 2020 have also been booked.

The other Barrie Concerts performance is on Saturday, April 22 at Hiway Church beginning at 7:30 p.m., showcasing brass quintet True North Brass.

A Sunday afternoon makeup performance for Georgian Music is at 2:30 p.m., on April 2, featuring the Magisterra Soloists performing Schubert’s monumental The Trout and more.

Also from Georgian Music is the Kawartha Trio with Judy Loman on harp. They will play some Mozart, Bruch, Debussy, Glick and Kreisler on April 16 at 2:30 p.m..

Both concerts will be at Bethel Community Church on St. Vincent Street.

Tickets are available for purchase online at barrieconcerts.org or people can try their luck at the door.

However, there are limitless livestream tickets available for purchase which can be viewed as the concerts are actually happening or within 30 days after the performance.

The Barrie Concert Association says it has invested in live-stream equipment for both venues and has a live-stream team with a professional sound engineer and videographer.

Also booked is a lineup of 12 concerts for the upcoming 2023-24 season — seven Saturday Barrie Concerts performances and five for Sunday afternoon by Georgian Music.

Sinfonia Toronto featuring Austrian violin sensation Elisso Gogibedaschwili, Quartetto Gelato, baritone Brett Polegato with pianist Robert Kortgaard, the Penderecki String Quartet, world-famous pianist Sheng Cai, Montreal string ensemble collectif9, Ladom ensemble, fun cello duo VC2, and more will play.
