The City of Barrie’s Canada Day celebrations on Saturday, July 1, 2023 will feature Elton Sean — Early Elton Tribute as the headliner, as well as family-friendly programming, including:

  • A Canadian wildlife display from Speaking of Wildlife;
  • Busker performances;
  • Face painting;
  • Inflatable games;
  • Vendors;
  • Live entertainment including Baytowne Big Band, Rockabilly Joe, Tex Rexman and belly dancing.

“The city’s Canada Day celebrations are always a highly anticipated event and offer a variety of activities for everyone in attendance,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “This year’s events are an important celebration of Barrie’s resilience that has been demonstrated over the past few years and bring the community together to kick off the summer season.”

The activities will start in Meridian Place at 12 p.m., and the evening will end with a fireworks show over Kempenfelt Bay starting at 10 p.m. Fireworks will be visible from multiple vantage points along the waterfront. In case of inclement weather on Saturday, the fireworks will be held Sunday, July 2, 2023.

On July 1, Barrie Transit will run according to an extended Sunday service schedule with the last buses departing the transit terminal after the fireworks display (approximately 10:30 p.m.).

The city encourages residents and visitors to support local during the Canada Day celebrations. Open Air Dunlop (presented by the Downtown Barrie BIA) will take place on Saturday, July 1, with Dunlop Street closed to cars from Maple Avenue to Mulcaster Street.

The City of Barrie’s Canada Day celebration is funded in part by the Government of Canada and sponsored in part by Tim Hortons.
