Tyneisha, also known as Ty the Poetess, is set to host an open-mic event for local poets and spoken-word artists in downtown Barrie at CW Coop’s on May 19.

This event will provide a platform for emerging and established artists to share their poetry and connect with like-minded individuals.

Ty is bringing Dwayne Morgan, “the godfather of Canadian spoken word,” to Barrie.

Dwayne Morgan is a two-time Canadian National Poetry Slam champion. He began his career as a spoken word artist in 1993. In 1994, he founded Up From the Roots entertainment, to promote the positive artistic contributions of African Canadian and urban influenced artists.

Dwayne has performed for the former president of the United States Barack Obama, former governor general of Canada Michaëlle Jean, late leader of the NDP Jack Layton, and has shared the stage with many of Canada’s top artists including Russell Peters while opening for international artists Alicia Keys, and recording with Canadian artists, including Drake.

This event is open to anyone who wants to participate, whether they are seasoned poets or just want to share a few words. It promises to be a night of inspiration, creativity, and community building.

To attend the open-mic event, visit CW Coop’s at 3 Mulcaster St., Barrie, on May 19, at 8 p.m.
