BarrieToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected]. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter from reader Peggy Hutchison is in response to our story 'INSIDE THE VILLAGE: Why it's time for food producers to scrap 'best before' dates,' published July 8.

I agree on scrapping "best before" dates.

This evening I finished some classic hummus in my fridge with an April 19, 2023, BB date. A visual check for mould or a tiny taste or sniff will help determine edibility.

Keep the "prepared on" date, so the customer can determine whether to purchase it.
