It seems that the current provincial government is operating as a stealth organization.
It began during the last election cycle when Progressive Conservative candidates refused to take part in any public forum debates. The stealth strategy was successful with the current government being handily elected.
But I'm curious, does the public really not want to know what moves the government is making about decisions that affect us all?
Does the public feel comfortable with a government who chooses what to share with other elected representatives?
How is it that York-Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney's staff was ordered to keep information about the removal of trees from other duly elected MPPs because they were not Conservatives?
In a democracy, information that is meant to be shared by all MPPs — should be shared with all MPPs regardless of political stripe.
Does the public feel fine about our elected MPP and provincial representative in Newmarket continually avoiding any discussion with constituents about our specific concerns regarding development on Greenbelt land that was supposed to be protected in perpetuity?
Does the public feel fine about being told that in order to "build homes fast" we need to infringe on protected Greenbelt lands, when the truth is that there is plenty of development land available now, without touching the Greenbelt?
We don't have to look far to see how democracy unravels in other parts of the world when democratic process is ignored, and governments operate by stealth.
Is that what we want?
